GRUPO MANIA

Puerto Rican tropical act Grupo Mania was formed in the early '90s by brothers Hector, Edwin, and Oscar Serrano, along with Alfred Cotto. The group released its debut album in 1993, showing the result of previous experiences when they played with

Willie Berrios and Leny Perez. In 1994, Serrano was replaced by Elvis Crespo, and they soon recorded Explotó El Bombazo. While that record was achieving gold status in Puerto Rico, Grupo Mania was becoming a major act in the local music scene. After Dancemania came out in 1995, the band signed up to Sony Music, recording Esta De Moda. By that time, Crespo decided to leave to pursue a solo career. In 1998, ex-Zona Roja Reynaldo Santiago joined in. In March of 1999, Grupo Mania presented the Grammy-nominated the Dynasty, live at Roberto Clemente's Coliseum. ~ Drago Bonacich, All Music Guide
