A
well rounded performer who has used his life experience to make
a name for himself, is well versed in many aspects of the performing
arts, including roles as a chorus singer/soloist, composer, percussionist,
songwriter, and actor. With a strong history of singing traditional
salsa and Cuban charangas, Domingo also became accomplished in rumba
and bachata. His career began in 1983 with New York's El Conjunto
Nativo and flourished as he worked with various orchestras including
Johnny Rodriguez and Conjunto Classico, Jose Alberto "El Canario,"
and Luis "Perico" Ortiz, as lead vocalist.
A
contract from RMM Records in 1987 opened the door for Qui-ones to
release many hits and work on duets with artists such as Tito Puente,
Van Lester, and Tony Vega. He released numerous recordings between
1987 and 1998 and made his theatrical debut in The Vietnam War Story,
(Heroes De La Patria). He also played Ponctius Pilate at Puerto
Rico's Centro de Bella Artes in the musical Jesucristo Superstrella
(Jesus Christ, Superstar). However, Dominigo Quinones has been most
acclaimed for his role as the famous Salsa Singer, Hector LaVoe,
in the off Broadway play, "¿Quien Mató a Hector LaVoe?"
His ability to evoke the essence of this controversial and complicated
artist is heightened through Qui-ones own battle with demons. A
life-changing religious awakening helped him to overthrow a drug
dependency that would surely have obstructed his ability to become
one of Puerto Rico's most popular performers. |
